FAQ
-
Do you have a working engine?
Yes, the working, proof-of-concept engine is a 4-cylinder 692 cc proof-of-concept engine. It has about 200 hours on it.
-
Do you hold patents on the engine design?
Yes, the engine design is protected under a family of patents. The patent numbers are US 7,219,647; US 7,481,188; and US 8,047,178. Furthermore, the patents were granted by the examiner with the rare distinction of “no prior art“, underscoring the design’s uniqueness and strength of the patents.
-
How long have you been working on the engine?
The engine was designed and built over a three-year period between 2015 and January 2018, when the engine was started for the first time. However, the decision to build the proof-of-concept engine came after many years of trying to convince others of the idea’s validity.
-
What are the uses of the Brickley Engine?
The Brickley Engine can be used in anything that currently utlizes an internal combustion engine—in other words, cars, trucks, generators, planes, marine vehicles, you name it!
-
Are you trying to sell the idea or start an engine company? What is your ultimate goal with the engine?
Mike is currently seeking to sell or license the engine design, though he has not ruled out starting an engine company. His ultimate goal is to have the engine be developed and used to save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions.
-
The engine looks different from others I’ve seen. Is it more complicated?
In some ways, yes, in others, no. For instance, there are more moving parts, but no other conventional engine can claim to accomplish the mechanical efficiency that the Brickley Engine offers. This, to Mike, is a worthwhile tradeoff.
-
Have you sought third-party validation / testing for the engine?
Yes, the engine underwent third-party friction testing at ROUSH Industries, Inc., in the fall of 2021. More information about the results can be found here: Testing
